PhD researcher
My name is Luisa Burchartz and I am a PhD student in the CAREER project. I am particularly interested in how cultural processes produce and reproduce labour market inequalities and how these processes are shaped by institutional contexts. In my PhD project, I research how employers as gatekeepers evaluate applicants’ skills and credentials over their life courses and how these evaluations and corresponding hiring decisions constitute the late-career penalty. To answer these questions, I rely on mixed methods: using interviews and factorial survey experiments.
During my undergraduate education in Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University College Maastricht, I majored in Philosophy and Social sciences. Afterwards, in the Social Sciences Research Master at the University of Amsterdam, I focused on cultural sociology and mixed methods research.
